Kat and MouseSimon Jones compares the July Previews, which lists comics that can be ordered for September, with the order forms sent to retailers and notices a slew of cancelled Tokyopop titles, including vol. 5 of Atelier Marie And Elie Zarlburg Alchemist, Gakuen Heaven Nakajima, vol. 4 of Kat and Mouse, and vol. 4 of Suppli (a MangaBlog favorite). This doesn’t mean these titles are cancelled outright—they may simply be postponed—but it does raise some possibilities. The full list is at the informative but NSFW Icarus blog.

Christopher Butcher notes that Dark Horse has cancelled its planned Akira reprint and wonders if that bolsters the rumor that Kodansha is going to set up shop in the U.S.

At Sleep Is For the Week, Lianne Sentar, a longtime Tokyopop freelancer, puts in a few good words for Stu and his crew.

Ed Chavez has an interview with Japanese literary agent Yukari Shiina at Publishers Weekly Comics Week. Her company, World Manga, is reversing the usual flow of things by bringing global manga creators to Japanese audiences.

And at the MangaCast, Ed has audio of the Broccoli Books panel from Fanime. I always enjoy hearing what the Broccoli folks have to say, so I’m looking forward to putting this on my iPod.

I agree delay OR cancellation is possible (I find it really hard to believe they wouldn’t finish Love Mode after putting out 10 of its 11 volumes) but I really wish they wouldn’t have gone straight for the cancellation category for all those titles unless they really meant it (there are other designations in previews that might have saved them some uproar).

Or perhaps, Simon Jones is right — this might is a good time for people to lobby for their titles. but…*shrug* there are going to be folks lobbying for whatever they really LOVE so the various outcries in the ‘nets can start drowning each other out.

(For the record, TP folks, I’m all for more volumes of Suppli & Love Mode).

  2. I hope Kat & Mouse is just a postponement. My youngest daughter really likes the series, and was excited when she saw there was one more volume coming out.

There are three other titles on the list that I hope end up just being delays. Dragon Voice (last one!), Mobile Suit Gundam Ecole Du Ciel (one of the few my husband reads) and Pick of the Litter. I’ll order these if they show up in the catalog, but since they are for next month’s orders, they may not show up to order…

  3. Her name is Yukari Shiina, not Sheena. But I have to say, that would be an awesome name.

  4. not Suppli!!!!!! no!!!!! so angry right now!! *sniffles*….

From what I read, “Shounen-Ai Samurai” on the Blu website said that Love Mode and Gakuen Heaven have been postponed:

“”Right now, these are postponed. Please support Love Mode 10 when it comes out in August. If it sells as well as volume 9 or better, it will be very difficult for us to not do volume 11.””

Hopefully some of the other titles on the list are only postponed as well…

  6. Not Nosatsu Junkie! Please not Nosatsu Junkie – one of my favorite series – ever!
