Really enjoy your blog. Super extra points for an awesome link about Disgaea.
“”Before I start reading something, I’ll go online and make sure there’s nothing too graphic. Just so I know it’s OK,” said Caitlyn Reich, 12″
I love how this young girl in this “OMG kids digging Japanese crap” story. Basically she’s saying that she’ll go online, download the scanlation, read it, and then decided it’s OK or not for her to, eh, enjoy it. I love the self-censoring mechanism the kids to do today, and the most beautiful part is, unless the parents is computer savvy, they have no say in the process.
Just I sure hope her definition of which YAOI doujin is too “graphical” is as the same as her parents. LOLz.
Not necessarily. She could be checking reviews or the publisher’s website. One of the reasons I originally started manga4kids was to give parents exactly that kind of resource.
Also, even at 12 and 14, my kids don’t like to see gore or explicit sex, so they will sometimes hand me a book and ask me to check it out first. It’s not that they are perfect little darlings—they watch all those horrible celebrity shows on VH-1—but some things are just plain icky. A lot of their friends seem to feel the same way. Personally, I’m hoping that attitude persists until they’re, oh, 21 or so. ^_^
Ops, posted in the wrong comment section. Mah Bad. This meant for the Valentines Day post.
@Tivome
I can’t believe I came across this, but that was a quote from myself when I was 12, published in a newspaper article about anime. I am 17 now and I must say, as a 12 year old I was NOT that stupid. You can look up information about a series before you look in to it, and my parents trusted me to do so. Sorry, just thought this was an interesting blast from the past, and quite odd to know that other people actually read that article.
